Lesson in Exfoliation with Clarins!
EXFOLIATE
To cleanse the skin with a treatment designed to eliminate impurities and expel dead skin cells from its surface. Exfoliation balances, smoothes, softens and deep cleanses the skin.
Ever wondered how to become an exfoliation expert? Sure we know the basics, smooth on, rinse off and continue on with our tried and tested beauty routine! However effective exfoliation really is the best kept secret to achieving healthy, luminous skin, so just what is “exfoliation” and how can we do it better? We’ve teamed up with the legendary Clarins institute to answer some of your skincare concerns! Clarins are the European leaders in luxury skin care so they know a thing or two!
Why is Exfoliation So Essential?
1. Defends against a dull complexion: Once the skin has been deeply cleansed it eliminates dead skin cells, which allows the skin to better reflect the light.
2. The All Important Anti-Ageing Effect: The effective removal of dead skin cells allows the skins surface to stimulate brand new cell regeneration.
3. The Oh So Softening Effect: Exfoliation allows the skin surface to be soft, supple and smooth.
4. The Re-energising Effect: Effective exfoliation encourages the skin to reactivate renewed micro circulation.
5. Boosts the Effectiveness of your Entire Beauty Routine: As the skin is purified and balanced, your complimentary skin care products that follow are absorbed more effectively.
“Can I use the same exfoliating scrub for my face and body”?
Absolutely not! The facial skin and the skin of your neck and décolletage are much thinner and more sensitive than that of your legs and arms. It’s essential you use a special exfoliating scrub that is gentle and designed for the face, neck and chest area.
Choose the correct exfoliator!
The Clarins skincare collection offers a range of exfoliating scrubs from those infused with micro beads to crystals enriched creams. But make no mistake there is a specific exfoliator designed especially for you. Which skin type best suits you? Should you opt for the Sensitive Skin Exfoliator or the more traditional exfoliating scrub? Or perhaps try Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner? Whatever your concern Clarins has you covered or uncovered as the case may be. For further reading try "7 bad skin habits that make you look older" .
Can exfoliators with micro beads cause lesions on the skin?
This is false! Micro beads are designed so that they glide across the surface of the skin and exfoliate it gently.
Is it best not to exfoliate your skin before hair removal?
This is false. Actually the exact opposite is true. This is a great idea as it prevents ingrown hairs and actually facilitates hair removal. We recommend exfoliating the night before your treatment.
How often should I exfoliate?
Exfoliating is a vital step in every beauty routine, but be careful not to overdo it. Exfoliating daily will damage your skin, so we recommend that you aim for 1-2 times per week. If you have overly sensitive skin, once a week is plenty!
What is the most effective exfoliating beauty routine?
For best result every time exfoliate and then follow with a mask or treatment.
Why use a mask after an exfoliating scrub?
You have created the optimal environment in which your skin can absorb all the active skin care ingredients of your mask. The pores are declogged and dead skin cells and impurities have been removed.
Why moisturise after an exfoliating scrub?
When you exfoliate you strip the skins hydrolipidic film which is the barrier that maintains your skins moisture levels. Moisturising after exfoliating revitalises and replenishes your cleansed skin.
How do I use an exfoliating scrub?
For your face: Exfoliate your skin gently, making sure to exercise caution when exfoliating around the delicate ye area. Employing a circular motion, exfoliate from the inside out, focusing on the T-zone area (forehead, chin and nose). We recommend "Trend Alert -Beautiful Skin is In" for further reading.
For your body: Always begin at the feet and then work your way up towards the shoulders. Pay special attention to dry skin areas such as the knees and elbows.
